Brick sculpture

The sculpture forms a space which contains 9 smaller spaces. This is best seen from a bird’s perspective!

The 9 spaces are linked together by low benches on the ground and arches overhead. If you place yourself facing the sculpture, you will experience it as calm and harmonious. If you move to get a corner view, on the other hand, then you will experience the sculpture as a chaotic structure because seen from this angle, the spaces move towards each other.

The sculpture was built by local craftsmen, whom Per Kirkeby handpicked for their skills in building arches.

The sculpture was donated by the Society for Artistic Decoration in Nakskov. Per Kirkeby’s works are rare in Denmark and in 1992 there were only three brick sculptures in the entire country.
