WE ALL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE PORTAL

  • BØRGE JØRGENSEN (1926-1998)
  • ERECTED 1985
  • Nørrevold, to the left of Nakskov railway station.

In the early 1960’s, Børge Jørgensen started working with metals, with different types of surfaces. He was particularly interested in light effects and light reflections. With the choice of metal followed a change from a more naturalistic style into an abstract, constructivist style. Børge Jørgensen’s sculptures often grow out of a frail foundation, from where the sculpture unfolds out into space.

This sculpture consists of three elements, which together create a dynamic space – a triangle. The sculpture is placed directly on the pavement so that pedestrians are led through the sculpture. Two tall”columns” form the rear edge of the sculptural group against the old post office. The ”columns” of the portal create a dynamic movement by means of shapes which attract each other. Please notice how the polished circle at the top works as a street mirror.

The sculpture group was supported by the Postal and Telegraphic Services, Nakskov.
